Meet the Artist Part 3: Flox
On unwinding after work…
Exercise has always been such a big thing for me, even from an early age. And I've taken that into adulthood. I love my running but I like to balance it out now with yoga and a bit of Shakti mat meditation at night, just on my own.
On life post Covid-19…
As with anything, if you're thinking too far ahead, it can be a little bit of an anxiety trip. But just focusing on the lockdown for what it was, it was a truly rewarding experience for me, personally. It gave me the time and space to do.
Lockdown really shone a light on the importance of New Zealand-made, where I can get my products made here. I love all the conversations coming out at the moment with people supporting New Zealand-made small businesses.
On growing through new experiences…
I think some of the experiences that have been pivotal for me have been about the travel. I've done so much growing up in the last 10, 15 years. And I think a lot of that has come from going overseas and just getting some context. I started travelling when I was 31 – I didn't do the big OE like all my other peers. Instead, throughout my twenties, I was building a business and I had my first child when I was 26. Going to different places and experiencing different cultures gives you context and a sense of gratefulness and understanding of what you have yourself.
On being grateful…
I wake up every morning and I feel really grateful. I feel grateful for my children. I feel grateful that I've been able to create this life for myself, for them. I'm so grateful that I'm doing what I love. I'm grateful that I love mornings and that I want to get out of bed and I want to go work. I’m grateful for the people around me, too. I've got so many great people around me.
On how to support Bowel Cancer New Zealand…
This Great Full project is a fantastic opportunity, and Bowel Cancer New Zealand is a worthy cause. Bowel cancer is a huge killer in New Zealand. It's crazy. It doesn't even affect just an older generation - it's affecting people in their 20s and 30s. It's scary. So it's an absolute privilege to use my passion to raise awareness and to create some dialogue around [bowel cancer]. Any money raised for such an important cause is a good thing!
