Parcelport - Shipping

Jeff Vollebregt

On what we’re all about…

With online shopping becoming more and more popular, reliable shipping is important for both the sender and the recipient of a parcel. A New Zealand company, we offer courier solutions to various small to medium size businesses. We’ve shipped well over 800,000 parcels domestically and internationally since we started back in 2014.

On leading the Parcelport team…

As Parcelport’s CEO, I joined Parcelport a relatively short time ago and I see my primary role as ensuring our wonderful Parcelport team do the very best they can for our customers by removing any potential obstacles and being committed to continuous improvement.

On changes in the shipping industry…

E- commerce is quite simply the biggest change (and challenge). The way people access products they need and want is continuing to evolve the way supply chain companies must operate. It’s also making the world a smaller place as many of our customers look to expand their potential markets by bringing their products/services to a broader international market.

On starting a business in New Zealand…

The entrepreneurial spirit that shows in New Zealand business is awe-inspiring. Our “I can do that” and “give it a go” attitude is key in getting things off the ground. New Zealand is one of the easiest places in the world to get started in a business and while not every business succeeds, Kiwis love to give it a go. It’s also great to see organisations provide mentoring and networking services for fledgling businesses as well. Our founder Jimmy Wu and chairman, Graham Roberts also subscribe to this and together we actively try and help young companies with support, contacts and advice in our area of expertise whenever possible.

On an inspiring quote…

I have a quote on my desktop from Amelia Earhart that says, “The most difficult decision is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” This speaks to me, as if nothing else, I’m tenacious!

On the issues of sustainability…

Like most Kiwis, I feel strongly about the environment. I saw an interview with Damon Gameau recently about his movie called 2040. The movie is the most inspiring thing I’ve seen on this topic and contrary to the pervasive doom and gloom narrative on the topic. It describes what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we all simply embraced the best of what’s already available to us to improve our planet.

On cultivating a sense of community…

There is nothing more powerful than when people come together in the pursuit of a greater good. Not too long ago, community halls, clubs and churches were the central point of our communities and often provided the communication and support network for people to meet, to find out what’s happening locally and (when required) what needs to happen. They were important because they were tangible environments and they were regular. Our lives are changing, particularly in the larger cities and towns’, and finding that sense of community can be challenging. While social media dominates the ‘community’ landscape, being a part of something greater than us as individuals cannot be understated.

On living in New Zealand…

My family and I have been very fortunate to have lived in several countries over the past 20 years but we have always proudly called New Zealand home for many reasons: The amazing countryside, the iconic kiwi ‘lifestyle’ and the fact that we genuinely embrace meeting people of all walks of life, all ethnicities and all socio-economic levels on an equal basis.

On being grateful…

For me, five words that sum up gratitude are family, friends, giving, community and thankfulness. Every day, I’m grateful for my awesome wife and kids as well as the company of my family and my friends.

On collaborating with Great Full…

We have a special level of support for customers who are involved in work for the New Zealand community called DATA – a rather boring acronym that sounds better in full: ‘Doing Awesome Things for Aotearoa’. When we read about Great Full’s purpose, we jumped at the chance to join the efforts of other great Kiwi companies and people.

On providing quality healthcare to our communities…

Aside from the first-hand experience of a family member being helped at incredible Starship Hospital, being part of something positive for our community and those in need is a complete no-brainer for our team at Parcelport.
